The Canvas Career Inbox is split into two panels and displays messages chronologically. You can view and reply to conversations and filter messages by course and recipients. You can send a message to one user or multiple users in a course.
Note: If your recipient list contains more than 100 users, your message will automatically be sent as individual messages to each user. As the sender, you will also be included in the total recipient count.
Open Inbox
On the panel, click the Inbox button.
The toolbar includes global message options. To load conversations, filter your messages by recipients [1]. Filtering by type allows you to view unread messages, sent messages, or announcements [2]. To compose a message, click the Create message button [3].
Create Message
In the Course drop-down menu [1], select the course where you want to send your message. Search for the user in the Recipients field [2]. If you are sending your message to multiple users, but you do not want each user to see who else was included in the message, click the Send an individual message to each recipient checkbox [3].
In the subject line field [4], enter a subject line for your message. In the message field [5], type your message. All content is sent in plain text. URLs included in a message automatically become clickable links after the message is sent.
To include an attachment or media file, click the AttachFile button [1].
When you are finished, click the Send button [2].
View Messages
The conversation thread displays the title of the message [1].
Each message within a conversation displays the names of the message participants, with the name of the sender in bold [2]. It also displays the date and time the message was sent [3].
You can also view the message content [4].
To de-select a conversation, click the Close icon [5].
To respond to a message thread, enter your response in the Reply field [1]. To include files, click the Attach file button [2]. Then, click the Send button [3].
