Instructors can use the Data and Insights page to track learner metrics, monitor engagement and participation, identify performance trends, and gain a better understanding of learner progress.
View Insights Feed
To view real-time AI-generated insights on learner progress, skills development, and engagement, click the Insights Feed button [1]. To take a suggested action based on the insight, click the card [2].
From the feed, you can click on a card to take a suggested action. To send an insight-based note to the learner, click the Send a note button [1]. The note is pre-generated and will appear in the learner's Canvas Career inbox and be sent to their email. To remove the insight, click the Delete icon [2].
Select Time Range
To filter the Data and Insights metrics based on a specific timeframe, select a time range from the Time range drop-down.
View Learning Progression on Learners Needing Support
You can identify learners who may need additional support. To configure the criteria for this, click the Settings icon.
Configure the following threshold settings to identify learners that may need additional support:
- Missed assignments (count) [1]: Enter the number of missed assignments. Learners whose missed assignments meet the count will be included in the insight.
- Late submissions (count) [2]: Enter the number of late submissions that will trigger the insight.
- Low assignment score (percentage threshold) [3]: Use the slider to set the minimum assignment score threshold. Learners with scores below this percentage are included in the insight.
- Delay insight after note sent (days) [4]: Enter the number of days to wait before the learner can reappear in the insight after a support note has been sent.
To apply the changes, click the Save button [5].
View Learning Progression by Course
You can see the overview of learner progress, skills development, and time spent in a selected course. To select a course, click the course drop-down [1]. The learning progress summary displays indicating learners who have not yet started, learners working through the course, and learners who have completed the course [2].
The Average Skills Earned widget displays the average number of skills earned by learners in the selected course [3].
The Average Time Spent widget displays the average amount of time learners spend in the selected course [4]. The widget also indicates the percentage increase or decrease compared to the previous reporting period [5].
View Learning Progression Status
You can see a comprehensive overview of individual learner statuses and module completion rates for students enrolled in a selected course. To select a course, click the course drop-down [1]. To filter learners' progress, click the Status drop-down [2]. To search for a specific student, click the Search icon [3].
The main table displays the Name [4], Progression [5], and the number of modules they have completed [6].
To export the learning progression data, click the Download icon [7]. To enable full-screen mode for the table, click the Expand icon [8].
The New skills earned widget is designed to highlight top learners based on skills they earned in the course [9].
