Intelligent Insights is a legacy add-on product. Its advanced analytics are available in Canvas Plus and Canvas Next and its AI-powered Insights (IgniteAI Ask Your Data) are available in Canvas Next.
The Accessibility Analytics dashboard helps admins monitor course accessibility across the institution. It pulls results from the Course Content Accessibility Checker and surfaces them through filterable metrics, severity breakdowns, and an overall score.

Data Scope and Freshness
Every chart and metric reflects the filters you apply. When you change a filter, all metrics update to match only the courses in that scope.
The dashboard shows the most recent scan for each course. Since courses are scanned independently, the latest scans may have run at different times. New scan results can take up to eight hours to display.
Severity Levels
Issues are grouped into four severity levels aligned with WCAG 2.2:
- Critical. Content isn't perceivable to some users. Violates Level A or AA.
- High. Content is perceivable but with major difficulty. Violates Level A or AA.
- Medium. Usable, but inefficient or frustrating. Violates Level AA.
- Low. Best practice suggestion, not a strict WCAG requirement.
Issue Categories
The Course Content Accessibility Checker scans for issues across six categories: image alt text, tables, color contrast, headings, formatting, and links. Each issue carries one of the four severity levels.
For example:
Critical
- Missing alt text
- Missing table headers
High
- Color contrast failures
- Missing table header scope
Medium
- Skipped heading levels
- Misformatted lists
Low
- Overly long alt text
- Overly long headings
Key Metrics
The dashboard tracks three key metrics: Scan Coverage (the percentage of courses in scope that have been scanned at least once), Courses At Risk (scanned courses with one or more open Critical or High issues), and the Accessibility Score (the percentage of scanned courses that aren't At Risk). Unscanned courses count toward Scan Coverage but are excluded from the Accessibility Score calculation entirely.
Scan Coverage
Scan coverage is the percentage of courses in your filtered scope that have been scanned at least once.
- Calculation: (Scanned Courses / Total Courses in Scope) x 100
Courses At Risk
A course's At Risk status depends on its scan history and open issues:
- Scanned courses are flagged At Risk if they have at least one open Critical or High issue.
- Unscanned courses are categorized Not At Risk because no issues have been detected yet.
The threshold is absolute, so a single high-severity issue is enough to flag a course as At Risk.
Accessibility Score
Individual courses don't get a score, but any filtered group of courses does. The score evaluates only scanned courses; unscanned courses in your filter are excluded.
- Calculation: (Courses Not At Risk / Total Scanned Courses) x 100
Example. If your scope includes 200 scanned courses and 50 are At Risk, then 150 are Not At Risk. The Accessibility Score is (150 / 200) x 100, or 75 percent.
