Intelligent Insights is a legacy add-on product. Its advanced analytics are now available in Canvas Plus and Canvas Next and its AI-powered Insights (IgniteAI Ask Your Data) are now available in Canvas Next.
The AI-powered query tool in Ask Your Data lets account admins and sub-account admins ask and answer questions in natural language. Educators can make data-informed decisions regardless of data literacy or technical skill.
Sub-account administrators can use Ask Your Data (AYD) directly within their own sub-accounts, where AYD is scoped to the data relevant to that sub-account. One exception applies: a sub-account admin who manages only a single sub-account can still pull data for all accounts when they open Ask Your Data. This is expected behavior.
A few datasets are never scoped. Scoping them would overly restrict or distort results, so they stay visible at every level:
- enrollment_terms
- grading_periods
- grading_period_groups
Notes:
- To enable Ask Your Data for your sub-account administrators, you must first grant the necessary permissions on the sub-account's Permissions page.
- Weblogs data access is extended to 12 months, making a full year of data available for analysis.
- For Consortium Access (If applicable to your institution): Consortium root-account admins can analyze data across every instance linked to their parent account. Ask your Data delivers aggregated consortium-wide insights, while existing instance-level searches remain unaffected.

Open Previous Chats
To open a previous chat conversation and data, click the My Chats drop-down menu [1] and select the desired chat [2].

To open a new chat conversation, click the New Chat button.

Create Your Own Prompt
Or you can create your own prompt in the chat window.
Open Prompt Library
To open the in-app prompt library, click the Prompt Library link.
Prompt Library
The Prompt Library allows you to explore inspiration on what questions to ask and examples of effect prompts. The Prompt Library includes CourseInformation [1], StudentInformation [2], InstructorActivity [3], AssessmentData [4], AdministrativeQueries [5], and ToolUsage [6].
After selecting effective prompts, click the Add prompt button [7].
Submit Prompt
After composing your prompt, click the Submit button.
View Data Results
The data results are shown to the right of the chat window, and this information pertains directly to the prompt you entered.
View Summary and Methodology
In the chat window, a Summary and Methodology outline is given.
View Summary
The Summary outline provides a high-level analysis of the actual results data.
View Methodology
The Methodology outline explains the process used to generate the data.
View Assumptions and Interpretation
The Assumptions and Interpretation interprets what your prompt means and makes an assumption for your query to display your data.
Refine Results
If you are not fully satisfied with the results, use the refinement suggestions or ask a follow-up question to refine your search.
Start a New Chat Thread
To start a new chat thread, click the Thread icon.
Delete Chat or Individual Prompt/Message
To delete a chat, click the chat Delete icon [1].
To delete an individual prompt or message, click the prompt/message Delete icon [2].
