If a student is absent for an assignment, I leave the grade blank. However, I'd like for the blank to automatically change to the 50 ( lowest grade possible per the district) in one week. Is there a way to set that up?
Hi @DENISEWEBSTER2 ,
Canvas does provide functionality to automatically give a specific grade for missing assignments--see How do I apply a Missing Submission policy in the Gradebook
However, the policy only applies to assignments that are submitted online through Canvas. It does not apply to assignments that students are doing in class and not submitting through Canvas.
Also, it cannot be set up only be applied after a week, and it cannot be applied only to a specific assignment. If you want a grade of 50% to be given for all missing assignments, that can be done, but the grade would show up immediately after the Due Date, not a week later.
Another possible option is to use the Default Grades feature.
You could set a Default Grade for the assignment a week after the Due Date is past, which would enter the default grade for any student who do not already have a grade entered (unless you select the "Overwrite already-entered grades" option). However, you would have to do this manually a week after the assignment. There is no functionality for automatically applying a default grade to an assignment.
I am currently experiencing an issue where a student’s assignment grade appears in Moderate, but it is not populating in the Canvas gradebook. I have verified the submission is there, but the grade is still missing from the gradebook view. Is there a known fix or additional step needed to get the grade to display properly?
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
Hi There, We are in the process of transitioning to Canvas this year and were wanting to connect with any other MYP schools to see how you setup Assignment and grading under your modules. Or you could guide us to any resources you may have.
Our "Outcomes" has not been working for about 6 months. Teachers can't build and attach Outcomes to new quizzes. Canvas said it was a rollover issue. Canvas won't fix it unless we pay them $2000 to "re-train" us for 10 hours. Has anyone had this problem and did it get fixed?
