My class policy is that late assignments can be accepted at professor discretion, but they will have a 50% penalty. This is a gate you pass through once, and there are no further penalties. If it's late, you simply get 50% deducted from whatever the score was. This happens regardless of whether it's 5 hours late or 5 weeks late. Just 50% penalty.
This appears to be unsupported in Canvas. While I can set a policy that deducts for late assignments, it appears to be done at set intervals. E.g., suppose I have this configuration:
This means on the first 24 hours after the assignment due date/time, the grade would be deducted 50%, and from hours 24-48, the grade would be deducted 100%. That is not what I want. I want that any late submission, at any time, gets a 50% deduction.
Is there a supported way to do this in Canvas?
