Yesterday, after much trial and error…I concluded the new quizzes matching choice options do not work as I expected, and have used with other LMS.
I thought that I could provide students a matching choice quiz with multiple attempts that would report incorrectly answered matches on the first attempt, and display the correct answers on the final attempt. In my case, I limited the number of attempts to 2.
Hiding the correct answers until after the final attempt is not possible with the current Canvas release.
For the present, my work around is to show the incorrectly answered questions on the first attempt, along with the correct answers. Thus providing the answers for the student's second attempt. While not what I want, but as good as it gets, as verified by Canvas Support.
As a work around, I am also thinking, but haven't tried, cloning the matching choice quiz, making the second quiz dependent on taking the first quiz. At lease this way, I can customize each matching choice quiz's options.
Anyone have any other ideas? Canvas support purposed changing the quiz options for the second attempt after all the students finish their first attempt, say on the first or second day of taking this quiz. An idea that is not practical IMO.
Here's what I wrote to Canvas Support:
As far as I can tell, the needed combination is not possible with the current structure of the settings available in Canvas. What you have in the current settings is:
- Indicate response as correct or incorrect
- Show correct answer
- Only after their last attempt
What I think is needed is:
- Indicate response as correct or incorrect
- In all cases
- Only after their last attempt
B. Show correct answer
- In all cases
- Only after their last attempt
IOW - I want to be able to do A1 and B2; but current settings limit my options to A1, OR A2, OR A1 and A2.
That is, I need to be able to "Indicate response as correct or incorrect" in all cases (attempts), and I need to "Show correct answer" only on the last attempt.
Does this make sense?
