Assignment Visibility, submission, and Due Date

Is there a way to make an assignment visible but not submittable? I have an instructor that wants to make his assignments visible for a period of time so students can look at the assignment directions but not submit the assignment until a later date. The instructor would like a visible date, a submit date, and a due date for assignments. Any suggestions? We are advising to create a page with the Assignment instructions that is separate from the Assignment. Thank you.

Would setting 'Submission Type' to 'No Submission' work for you?

We have a number of observable assessments where students need to read instructions but not action anything in Canvas, and this is how we achieve that.

Your suggestion of a separate page would be an option. Once an assignment has a submission type that requires something turned in to the assignment, it will produce a button to submit the work. @NaomiWilcox 's suggestion of setting it up to No Submission will be one way to turn off the Submit button. This can also occur if you set the submission type to On Paper.

The teacher can leave all other settings (visibility, due date, points, etc) intact while in No Submission or On Paper mode. Once the teacher is ready to open it up for submissions, they can just change the submission type and it will put a button for students to submit work.
