@WaltripRaymond you might need to give more context here.
Per other threads, there is a difference between groups and sections - if you want to differentiate at scale you would probably want to create sections (assuming this fits with your local admin/IT regime).
You can set Canvas assignments as Group Assignments - this requires that you have already set groups up via the People View. However this allows you to allocate marks to whole groups or individually - not to assign specific work to specific groups - and for a single submission to be made for the whole group.
One low effort approach would be to have a single Canvas Assignment that refers the students to individualised group instructions posted to specific groups (again based on people) in a discussion thread.
