Difficulty adding a new user to a course?

Question

I am adding new teachers to a course via their email addresses, and I received the following message for one of the faculty:  "We were unable to find matches below."  I am using a working, valid academic email address for the individual.  This person has been added to a Canvas course in the past but did not accept the invitation.  Our courses are run through an academic society, not an educational institution, so all teachers have different email address stems.  Could you please help me to problem-solve why this is not working?

Do you happen to know the user's Login ID rather than his/her e-mail address?  If so, have you tried adding the person via that method instead?  Please check out the section called "Select User Search" about half-way down this Guide: How do I add users to a course? - Instructure Community.

Hey @MarieClark2170424 !

In addition to the information @Chris_Hofer provided you with, sometimes the email address is setup as the login ID (especially if the users self-create their accounts).

I recommend going to the login ID option and using the exact same email address and trying that instead. If that doesn't work, I'd follow the advice Chris gave about finding their official login ID and adding them to the course that way, too.
