Weighted Grading for Complete/Incomplete Assignments

I have a group of assignments worth 15% in a class using weighted grades. Faculty want the assignments in this particular group to be pass/fail, but I'm concerned that won't give the gradebook any way to calculate the average weighted grade for this group.

-Do I have to give all of these assignments point values to ensure the weighted grading works?

-If I must indeed make the assignments worth points, will the weighted grading still work if I choose "display grade as complete/incomplete" instead of as "points"? I.e., if an assignment is worth 5 points, and the student passes, they earn 5 points and the assignment is marked "complete"; if they fail, the assignment is marked "incomplete," and the student gets 0 points.

I would generally say that, yes, the assignments need to have a point value greater than 0 to actually have an affect on the overall grade (whether using weighted assignment groups or not). A student's total score for each weighted assignment group will be derived by summing their points earned and dividing that by the points possible/attempted, so even though complete/incomplete could display in the gradebook with 0 points, it would be problematic for a total calculation. As far as I know, marking something with points as "complete" would award full points, while incomplete would award 0, so you should be able to use any point value for the assignments that you'd like, and you can even vary them if one assignment's "complete" should towards more of the weighted group count as more than others.
