At higher levels, we have different assessments depending on the activates. So in my course, the students need to fulfill both requirements:
- 70%, thus 25 of 36 "points" in exercises
- 3 of 3 obligatory laboratory exercises
In Canvas you can only use one grading scheme! This is pretty hopeless and is limiting the usefulness of the grading center. Previously we've used Blackboard and the grading center there is flexible and works really good. Thus, stepping over to Canvas was a real downturn when it comes to grade center. I cannot give the students (200+) insight in their performance in a correct way due to the design and limitations in the grade center. Being able to choose only one grading scheme I need to make a choice that fits only one of the requirements above (the 70% one) and make that count 100% toward the final "grade". His makes the 3 of 3 for labs looks weird. After the first lab they got a score of 36/36. This looks really weird. Reason for this is also also something that is an headache: Course assignments etc. are NOT weighted! I cannot choose that, but for a strange reason, but the students them self can. Why is that? Why can't I choose that for them when that will give them the correct feedback? I cannot go into more than 7000 cells and change a huge number of them from "-" to 0.
This semester we also have a course there 2 of the 3 first exercises and 2 of the last 3 exercises need to be approved. This was possible to do in Blackboard in an easy way; here, it will be impossible!
PLEASE: Add the possibility to more that one grade scheme. And give us the opportunity to choose weighted assignments. So fa Iv're been very disappointed when it comes to Canvas and grading (correctly).
