Is there a way to mark a student who has left early from class? I see that a student can be marked late, but not that they were present at the start of class and left.

Hi @HelenDevereux !
Thank you for posting on the Instructure Community!
No, this is currently not a feature with the Attendance tool within your course. I recommend reaching out to your administrator to see what action should be done if a student leaves class early.
I hope this helps!
All the best,Noah
Hi @HelenDevereux,
I would encourage you to look into the possibility using a combination of "badges" in the Roll Call Attendance feature, along with the "late" status.
How do I use Roll Call Attendance badges in a course?
I hope this helps you.

Is it possible to mark a student excused in attendance?
Hi @ChalethiaWillia,
You can do this by creating/adding a badge and then assigning it to a student on that day.
That is explained in the How do I use Roll Call Attendance badges in a course? - Instructure Community - 993 guide.
If you work with your institution's Canvas team, they can create/add badges at the account level using the How do I add Roll Call Attendance badges to an account? - Instructure Community - 230 guide.
You would then be able to view reports using the How do I run Roll Call Attendance reports in a course? - Instructure Community - 1023 guide.
Hi to the community, I understand the two reporting options in Canvas for Outcomes. I need a curriculum overview report to show what outcomes from the institutional menu are being utilized in each individual course. What we have done: Our accrediting body, AACN, has a set of Domains and Competencies that nursing must meet,…
A and B are each actually areas of the workshop with a different emphasis. Having the students split between areas makes equipment access easier. How do I allow students to choose between working in area A for the first half of the term, then area B for the second half of the term, or the opposite, while using Course…
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
