Hello. Is there a way to disable the To Do list for student view?
Looking from this thread: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Question-Forum/Can-the-student-to-do-list-be-disabled/m-p/160239
It looks like there isn't a way to disable it.
That's horrible. We should be able to disable the To Do list. Online students use it to complete only written assignments because they do not have to access the actual Web site. The To Do list makes it easier for them to avoid learning.
Hi @BSchmidt0413 and @deborah_okey,
I'm going to paste a reply around this that I made in another thread a few days ago...
"As for hiding the entire right side of the dashboard, it's likely possible through css, but I would really discourage you from going that direction as Canvas really is designed to have that info visible. If you were to hide the right bar you may be doing more of a disservice to your users (especially students) than you realize initially. I know some people don't like that the to-do list can give students quick access to things without navigating an entire course, but it really is beneficial especially once teachers start designing courses to make use of the to-do (primarily making sure things have dates attached or adding to the to-do where applicable)."
The to-do list, in my opinion, is part of Canvas' core architecture. I know it can be frustrating for teachers if students just go off that list, but there are strategies to combat that a bit, such as making as many things as you can assignments, even if they are ungraded. By doing that, course activities will all show up on the to-do list and students may actually be more likely to do them than if the to-do didn't exist. I know this can make a crowded assignments list, but I wanted to at least put it out here as an idea.

Is having students read the textbook considered an assignment or an activity if there is no grade but a required date?
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
I have a student that was in a tag called "ac" and recently moved him to a different tag, "AC." I did ensure the old tag was removed; however on a canvas PAGE he sees both pages the "ac" and "AC" Canvas Pages. I removed the assigned tags to the page and the one tag to the student thinking maybe if I remove and reassign…
