Is there a way to observe students working on assignments during class period?
When I taught face to face, I was able to glance at student's work to check for understand and help them stay on track>
Canvas does not have the ability to do realtime observation of student activity. That would require using some kind of remote surveillance software to record screen activity. My local school district uses GoGuardian so teachers can help keep track of what students see on their screens. It even works when the schools' devices are off site.
I'm going to mark my response as a solution, but there can be more than one. I hope our colleagues here in the Community can share other options for observing students in real time.

The fact that the teacher's gradebook view only displays the letter grade in the "override" column makes it difficult for the teacher to review grades, as the numerical grade entered cannot be determined in that view.
Screen readers seem to read out the LaTex and not the equation.
Whenever possible, I prefer to have my students take in-class quizzes and tests on their laptops. But to make sure that they do it in the classroom, I've always put a password on the assessment and then given them the password. I use Respondus 4.0 for loading questions to my pools in Bb and now that we have moved to Canvas, I want to load them to an Item Bank. However, to do this, I need to have them downloadable as a QTI 2.1 option. My options or limited. #1 I can load to a Classic Quiz which my university does not prefer, download the questions…
