Late deductions working incorrectly on assignments

Per below, I have Canvas configured to do a 50% deduction on late assignments.

The problem is this is not a 50% deduction. Instead, it appears to be deducting 50 points. For example, if I have a 25-point assignment, the student gets a 0 for a late assignment.

Even if the interval is the issue, it would take many days before successive 50% deductions result in a score that rounds to 0. I am well within such a period.

I don't have an answer to your question, unfortunately - that is incredibly frustrating!! I did want to ask, though, if you intend for the late submission deduction % to be recalculated every day? That is, for a 60 point assignment, late 1 day results in 30 points possible, late 2 days results in 15 points possible, etc? I haven't used it, but my assumption has always been that it deducts the same percentage of the original available points every day (meaning a 60 point assignment would be worth 60, then 1 day late = 54, 2 days late = 48, 3 days late = 42, etc.)
