I was wanting to request an addition to the canvas system. I was wondering if it would be possible to place a roster count on the grade book page.
I manage multiple classes and sometimes when I am booking a room or requesting items for a lab it would be incredibly nice to just open the course grade book and have the number of students currently enrolled listed at the top of the page. Currently I have to print the grade book to get a count in excel or manually count from the page. This number also fluctuates due to late adds or students choosing to drop the course.
An additional option would be just to number the students to the left of the student name in the grade book so you could see how many there is.
This option would also allow you to sort the students by grade to see the number that is passing, failing, or on the bubble so to speak.
Honestly if it were possible my ideal grade book set up would have the number enrolled and the number passing and failing along with the calculated percentage passing and failing listed in the top area of the page. The range for passing and failing could be manually set. This would enable me to drill down on problem courses. This would also enable my department head to be able to quickly monitor courses throughout program. Additionally if we could set a grade range for students requiring intervention according to current grade that could be displayed as well that would be incredibly helpful for data collection and enable instructors and deans to make swifter actions in courses.
I know its a big ask with all the other updates, redesigns and request your team is doing. But I see this as quality improvement and time saver as well as enabling better oversite of the courses in a quick raw snapshot.
Thank you so much for your consideration,
David
