Teachers often assume that because an assignment is a groupassignment, they will automatically grade it per group via SpeedGrader. With the option “Grade students individually”, they think they’re simply assigning the group grade to each individual student — without realizing that this option actually requires them to assess each student one by one in SpeedGrader.
“This is a group assignment” essentially means:
👉 “the assessment and the group grade are applied to all group members automatically.”
That’s why we suggest rephrasing “Grade students individually” as:
👉 “Assess each student individually and assign an individual grade for the group task.”
Even though assessing and grading are similar terms, using both highlights the link with what teachers see in SpeedGrader for a group assignment.
