How do I sort the TERM menu (on the Course Settings page)?

I don't understand how the system decides on the sorting for the TERM menu in Course Settings.

Does anyone know how to make this sort sensibly? It isn't alphabetic, it isn't based on date the Term was created and it doesn't mirror the Admin page order. It also doesn't seem to use the SIS ID for Terms (though, these have not been set consistently in our LMS).

Some further research - SIS ID does impact on sorting… but I still can't predict how! This is our current setup, shown how it is sorted in the menu!

In my instance, I do see that the API call for Terms (which loads the Terms page) and the order on the settings page don't match.

As an educated guess, the list in the Settings page is sorted by WHEN the term was created in the system, from Oldest (which is usually Default Term) to Newest, as it was loaded from the SIS or other sources that load your terms in. From cursory inspection this seems to be correct, as some of our Q4 terms are at the bottom (and are usually the last terms to get courses). I would need to load the API call from the terms page and then do a comparison with the order to be more confident in this answer.

Thanks for your thoughts - I did some more testing, and SIS ID does have an impact on the order, but it isn't the only thing that does.

I just checked the order again, and it is completely different today!!! On the left is what it was on Friday and on the right, what it is today!
