Quickly Modifying Assignments through Sections

I teach over 500 students a week. I often use exit tickets, which include both typical and modified assessments. To assign students to one or the other, I have created "modified" and "non-modified" sections. However, this requires me to go to each student individually to add them to one or the other. Is there a quicker way? Schoology, for example, provides a much simpler way to form groups and accommodate students.

If you mean is there an easy way to create 2 sections in a course - one called modified and one called non-modified.  I believe the answer is yes (depending on your definition of easy).  you need the list of students from the course - use the grade book export.

In that export file organize the students into the 2 sections you want - you will need the Login ids for the students.

Then in the settings navigation link, click on sections and add in the names for the 2 sections. Once that is done, go to people and click on the +people tab.  In the window to add people, chose by login id.  Then paste a copy of the login ids from the csv download file into the window (easiest if you have 1 per line, but  commas can separate them as well).  Then select the role for the additions (probably student) next to the role is the section drop down.  select modified or non-modified section from that list and click on next.  This puts the students into those sections, but they have to accept the invitation (which as I typed this up I realized may not be what you want).  If the students are to not know they are in a modified or non-modified section, then the above won't work.  Of course you have to get the students to accept the invitation.  

As a side note, if you do have a list of the students for the two sections, maybe your schools Canvas admins will put them into the sections in your class for you - should be simple for them.
