Discussion posts- students pick 2 of 5

Question

I have created 5 discussion posts for students in Canvas LMS.  How do I reconcile the gradebook for the 3 that are not chosen so that the ones not chosen will not count against the student's final grade points?

Hi there @MarilynNibling ,

You can set your students that do not submit to a certain discussion post as 'Excused' so they don't have a score that's going to affect their final grade. You will need to do this for each student individually. You cannot make the gradebook skip certain students from not counting it towards the final grade.

The option that @NoahBoswell mentioned is what I would do. Those steps are described in the  How do I change the status of a submission in the ... - Instructure Community - 678 support article.

The only other option that I can think of would be to use/create:

* assignment groups ( How do I add an assignment group in a course? - Instructure Community - 970 ) and put all of your discussions in one assignment group
* add rules to the assignment group for discussions ( How do I create rules for an assignment group? - Instructure Community - 848 ) and drop the lowest 3 (because your students would get a 0 for them)
