Rubrics with a point range

This is our first semester with Canvas, and I am trying to grade an assignment using a rubric that has a point range. I saw a video that said to click on the range and then edit the number under "points." However, I am unable to change the number. Only the highest number is available.

According to our documentation How do I use a rubric to grade submissions in SpeedGrader? that is the expected behavior.

'If a criterion includes a range, clicking a rating selects the entire range and defaults to the highest value in the range"

I'd suggest creating individual score ratings if you want to be able to use a score of your choice rather than ranges.

Hi Vicki! If you want to adjust the point range you will have to do it from the assignment settings, not the Speedgrader. If you aren't able to adjust the points from the rubric in the assignment settings, then you likely are using an Outcome/standard in your rubric that has a locked number of points possible. If this is the case, you will not be able to adjust those points for the specific Outcome. You can add criterion to the rubric to adjust the total rubric points and/or you can leave your rubric as is and change the assignments total points to either match the rubric or display as a percentage so the grade accurately reflects a score out of 100 possible.

We use a rubric that has a range for each criterion as well. I just went into Speedgrader to look myself. When I select a range, it still allows me to edit the number. When I save what I have entered, the values shown reflect what I typed in, not the default value. It also seems to work regardless of whether I am using Classic or Enhanced Rubrics.

Are you in Speedgrader when doing this? Is it giving you any kind of message when you try to change the score?

Are you able to record your screen (hiding the student info) of you selecting a range but being unable to click on and change the value under points?

I'm curious if this is just something you are experiencing or if I can recreate the issue on my end.

Could you please send a screen shot of where you are accessing the points and what you would like to amend? It sounds like the rubric has been made in a blueprint and been pushed across so you may not be able to edit in your course.

Allow Observers to View Instructor Comments
It would be very beneficial for observers (parents) if they could view instructor comments. If they had access to this information, they could better understand the grading of individual assignments and better understand the errors that their student made.
