If I have a big black dot next to my announcement in the listing what does that mean along with a circle with a U in it?
These announcements came over when I was copying my class from last semester to this semester.
Hi there @LindaMills1 ,
Announcements that are imported have the "U" symbol inside of the profile picture. Because it was imported, Canvas doesn't have data of who posted the announcement since it's in a brand new course with a different course ID. So, it replaces it with that.
I hope that helps!Noah

Just to tag on to what @NoahBoswell said, here is a Guide that explains more about the "U" that you see next to your announcements. Look at the section under "View Announcements" ... and especially the two bulleted "Notes" under the screenshot.
How do I use the Announcements Index Page?
I hope this will help a bit.

When you are creating a quiz and/or also reviewing a quiz in Canvas after the class has taken it, the questions aren't numbered so after you get past the first few questions, there is no way to even tell what number you are on. Can someone change that?
Speedgrader chaning file name when being downloaded. Speedgrader: When downloading a submitted assignment, the file name is being changed to an unrecognizable name — (Student's actual name was part of the file name — changed for privacy.) Ideas???
We are all familiar with the standard Course Calendar, where assignment due dates are automatically added. However, at my institution, we structure our assignments as Challenges that develop over a period of time, rather than just a single deadline. Currently, the calendar only highlights the "end point." It would be a…
