We have a campus reporting that notes/comments entered directly in PowerTeacher Pro are being removed after a Canvas-to-PowerSchool grade sync runs.
Based on the Instructure FAQ, we understand that only the following fields are transmitted during a sync:
- Assignment Description
- Assignment Group Association/Category Association
- Assignment Name
- Assignment Due Dates
- Assignment Scores
- Assignment Status - Missing and Excused (Late is not supported)
- Points Possible
Since comments are not in that list, our working theory is that when grade sync pushes new data for a student assignment, it may be clearing any PTP-native data that wasn't part of the original sync payload — including comments teachers have manually entered in PTP.
We also found this archived 2020 thread on a related topic that went unanswered.
Has anyone confirmed this behavior? Is there a known limitation or workaround for preserving PTP comments across syncs? We are working to reproduce the issue on-site, but we wanted to check whether this is a recognized problem before escalating.
