Announcements - Podcast - what is this? Does it mean the system will send out an email to all enrolled students? If so, why don't you say that? Why call it a "podcast"?

I do not have a specific answer for you because I do not know of any faculty at my institution that are actively using podcasts for either announcements or discussions (they are closely related to each other).
What I can say is that institutions have guides available on how it could be used:
