Does anyone have experience with creating courses that students can test out of assignments in a module after completing passing a test?

After our students complete a module pre-test, we would like for our students to test out of assignments that they passed in the pre-test that cover the same topics. Does anyone have experience using a feature or creating a course and a pre-test (quiz) like this?

You should be able to achieve that using Mastery Paths:  How do I use Mastery Paths in course modules? - Instructure Community - 906

Add a mastery path to the pre-test, and if a student obtains less than a certain number of points in it, assign them the other assignments. If they obtain a high enough grade, don't assign them anything.
