I sent a student the link to enroll in my course. They are asked to put in a username and password. What is wrong? This student has her own free Canvas course. Could that be causing a problem?
Hi @hcedwards,
Welcome and thank you for posting on the Instructure Community!
Is your course associated with a paid canvas account? Meaning, does your institution pay for their own Canvas instance and your course is associated with it? If so, your student will not be able to sign up for the course with her own free for teacher canvas account, since they are two different canvas instances managed by two different admin teams. Unless associated with a trust account, which in this scenario isn't possible, you can't exactly access courses from other instances on another one that isn't associated with the same institution.
I recommend having her register for an account under the Canvas instance your course is associated with. If registration for student accounts isn't enabled for your school's institution, then one of your canvas admins will need to create an account for her.
However, if you're using free for teacher like she is, please ensure she has successfully signed up and has received the confirmation email. Upon that, ensure that your course is published and that you entered the correct email or login ID when inviting her to the course. She will then be able to sign in and accept the invitation with no problem.
Reach out with any additional questions or concerns, we're happy to help!
Good luck and all the best,Noah
I have seen documentation that says you must recopy your iCal link and resubscribe when you are enrolled in new classes, does this mean my iCal feed link changes each time, or do i just need to re-fetch the .ics file?
We use course pacing to manage due dates, because we run ~20 something courses each quarter and manually setting due dates would be a nightmare. Several courses have two core topics. We want to allow students to choose which of these they will pursue first. Is there any way to configure multiple course paces with different…
Creating beautiful, professional-looking components for your Canvas by Instructure courses is that easy. With Canvas Designer, you can build banners, cards, accordions, alerts, tabs, and more in just seconds—with no HTML or CSS knowledge required.…
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
