I am confused as to how I would mark a fill in the blank answer as correct, so that it shows up as the correct answer in the student view. I teach a class that has a wide variety of possible answers for fill in the blanks, so it is not feasible to enter all of them even with the "close enough" feature. Is there a way to just mark each fill in the blank as correct? I feel that otherwise the grading to the students will be confusing when they have the right amount of points but 3/4 of the fill in the blanks say incorrect.
Hi! I'm not as certain on this answer as the other I just left you, but what popped into my head is that if your question is so open ended that there are too many correct answers to list, you may want to use the essay question option instead of fill in the blank. That will leave the question ungraded for you to go in and mark correct or not.
If you're looking for every fill in the blank question to be marked right no matter what the answer is, I don't think that's an option.
Hopefully others will chime in with other thoughts!
You can use a regular Expression to mark any answer as correct in Fill in the Blank: the expression you need to use is .+
The + means "1 or more of the preceding character" and the . represents "any character". Essentially, this will mark the entry as correct, as long as *something* is entered.
I don't want to use the essay format because students use AI. I am looking for them the translate medical terms and there are a large variety of correct answers. I want to be able to go back when I am manually grading the quizzes and accept an answer that the computer marked as wrong. This would be an amazing feature especially if it kept track of every answer you accepted and added it to the list of acceptable answers. Right now I jut adjust the points earned and make comments, but it is still visually distressing for students to see a bunch of red X's.

I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric. When you create a new criterion for a rubric, you enter a decription for a rating, but for an account level outcome.
We use a pre- post- model to measure learning which requires student-question matching from two time periods. This requires exporting quiz data to CSV to do the analysis properly. (I can get into more detail if needed.) The New Quizzes Student Analysis CSV export has repeated blocks of ItemID then columns related to that…
Hello! A caution to my fellow Admins and support folks that Instructure updated their live-chat link (the one in the "(?) Help" menu, if you license their Support Chat service) fairly recently, but the old broken one is still online and appears as if it still functions. If someone hits the old link, after entering their…
