Once I enter the point values that I am giving the student for each criteria, it used to put the total points into the grade box. It is not doing this anymore. How do I get the points from the rubric to enter as the grade?
Hi @eoverton70,
If you edit the rubric that's attached to your assignment, you should see the "use rubric for grading" option. If you turn that on, the points from the rubric should go to the grade box automatically. This is mentioned in the guide: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-add-a-rubric-to-an-assignment/ta-p/1058 (see the "select rubric settings" section, number 4 in the screenshot).
Hope this helps a bit!

@eoverton70,
In addition to what @chriscas wrote, there is a weird workflow that repeatedly catches people until they become aware of it.
If you set the option to "use rubric for grading" before you find and attach a rubric, it does not remember (save) your settings.
What you need to do is attach the rubric. Then click the button to edit the rubric. Then check the box to use the rubric for grading and save the settings.
Unintuitive, which is so un-Canvas-like, but hopefully it helps you understand. If you're like I was until I figured it out, you were probably saying "I know I checked the box but now it's not working." To Canvas, the checking of the box never got saved because you "changed your mind about the settings" and decided to change the rubric instead. Technically speaking, the new rubric might have different settings, but most people were probably changing the settings based on the rubric they intended to use, not the one that was there.
I have used Blackboard, Moodle, and now work at a Canvas university. When grading quiz items. I want the ability to view all of the students' responses to a single item at once. This could allow consistency in grading and speed up the grading process. This functionality has been available in Moodle for over 10 years.
Has anyone ever encountered this error in the Admin Analytics Student section?
My class policy is that late assignments can be accepted at professor discretion, but they will have a 50% penalty. This is a gate you pass through once, and there are no further penalties. If it's late, you simply get 50% deducted from whatever the score was. This happens regardless of whether it's 5 hours late or 5 weeks…
Teachers often assume that because an assignment is a groupassignment, they will automatically grade it per group via SpeedGrader. With the option “Grade students individually”, they think they’re simply assigning the group grade to each individual student — without realizing that this option actually requires them to…
Hi There, We are in the process of transitioning to Canvas this year and were wanting to connect with any other MYP schools to see how you setup Assignment and grading under your modules. Or you could guide us to any resources you may have.
