Good afternoon,
I hope all is well and I just wanted to bring up the topic of the Canvas Portfolio again. I was involved in early iterations of this project and have reviewed all of the other discussions, which are now closed. We are looking to use the portfolio tool as a foundation for our new Master of Organizational Leadership program and other departments have also expressed interest. However, when I last used the tool, any assignments included in a portfolio could not be seen when publicly shared, there was a bit of confusion between the evaluation and showcase portfolios, and it was not clear whether it would be better to have individual courses with portfolios or a separate course shell with students submitting that way. When I mentioned these concerns earlier, they were not answered and following up with my CSM, there was a recommendation to speak with a strategic consultant (which we do not have funding for). Does anyone have insights into how they are using this tool? We love Canvas, and a lot of the new tools are awesome, but I am really uncertain if this is the right tool for us to use or if we need to go the way many other universities are going with Google Sites or another alternative. It seems like a real shame to have to use another system. Thank you for any suggestion and sharing your experiences in advance.
Edit & Addition: I was just in the platform again and noticed I can add multiple courses, but not edit them once they are added to the evaluation portfolio. In my particular use case, I would need to add additional courses based on student pathway. They have seven required core courses and then three electives they can either take from the MOL or outside. It's important that we have something nimble we can pull information from as they progress through their degree.
Sincerely,
Ed
