Students and faculty are unable to subscribe to a discussion, even though they have updated their notification settings and they are not required to post first.
The option to subscribe is "greyed" out.
Thank you @KimberlyStockin for including that screenshot. I was able to replicate your problem with some specific steps:
When these three things were true, a student user is unable to subscribe to the discussion. An instructor user still can, however.
I realize the first item in my list is contrary to what you reported, but when I changed the discussion so post first was turned off (and left the until date in the past), the student user could subscribe. I even tried changing the course dates so it ended prior to today and concluding the course. In all attempts, the discussions are still subscribable. Finally, I turned off notifications for the course but the subscribe button was no longer grey.
I can think of two options now. One is whether there are user permissions and course settings that are not the same between the instance of Canvas I'm using and yours, and there are lots of options. The other is to contact the Canvas help desk via the Help menu in your Canvas instance. That will get it to the tech support team. It would be great if their vigilance extended to the Canvas Question Forum, alas it does not.
I'm going to mark this reply as a solution. I realize it does not solve your problem, but our colleagues who have a similar critique will also find the best way to pass on the feedback.
Hello! I am using a canvas assignment text box to do an in-class writing task for my students. I would like to limit the features of the text box to prevent cheating. How can I remove features like "add code" or "access google" so that students can only do the simple task of typing an essay? I am already using Securly to…
Hi everyone, It looks like the multiple rubric idea has bounced around a bit with the different feature request methodologies over the years, including a mention in New & Next 2024 according to this post, interviews in the enhanced rubrics features group, being listed as "under consideration" on the new roadmap, and this…
I recently had an exam provided as a Canvas Quiz in my class, and used some questions copied from question banks from other sections and prior years of the course. Some of those questions had "General Answer Comment" text already saved in them. I changed that text in several questions as I updated/changed the questions.…
I would like to suggest improvements to how collaborations function within Canvas LMS. Currently, collaborations are somewhat limited in how they can be accessed and integrated into course content. One potential improvement would be allowing collaborations to be directly linkable within Pages and Modules. This would make…
We are using the Learning Mastery Gradebook with an rubric on account-level. When we enter the gradebook, the sorting does not make any sense. How can we make the sorting so it makes sense to us. It feels like a randam sorting.
