missing grade book filter

Question

I have two courses this year.  One of them shows a grade book filter to view by quarter, but the other course does not give me that option.  How can I add a filter option to my grade book?

I am sorry you are having trouble locating your gradebook filter.

* Based on what you are describing here, it sounds like your course might be using Grading periods and can filter by different quarters in that period. In the course that you are unable to see the filter for the different quarters, do you have the filter applied for grading periods? If so, enable the filter for grading periods and you should see the option for the different quarters pop up to the right side of the gradebook.  
* One other possibility I thought of: Is the course not aligned with a grading period? If you go to the gradebook, select the view button, do you see the option for Grading periods? If not, then it might not be showing up because the course is not aligned with any specific grading periods that are setup on the account side of things. If this is the case, your school's canvas admin can add a grading period for use in the course.

* If your course is utilizing the Enhanced gradebook filters, THIS is the guide you would want.
