Why are the rubrics not automatically saved? Why is the score not auto populated into the score box?

It sounds like you might not have the rubric setup in a way that allows you to grade with it. When you are using a rubric on an assignment or quiz, you will have a few different Rubric setting options that can be selected:
Most of the time you will just need to select the option for 'Use This Rubric For assessment grading' in order for you to use the rubric in Speedgrader and have the score stick for the submission. Can you confirm is this is selected on your assignment/quiz?
