Annotating on Canvas

I am trying to get the students to be able to annotate on a PDF using the Canvas annotation option.

Some videos I watched are pretty straight forward and show that once I click the annotate tool when creating an assignment, the students can then see a place that says "start assignment." When I have looked at student view, it does not have that option. Instead, it has a submit button that another video I watched says they need to click first to get started. But they are not really submitting the assignment yet.

Thank you for contacting the Canvas Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with student annotations. From what you described, it may not be set   up correctly or acting abnormal - in which case we'd need  to speak with Canvas Support to look at the specifics.
