We have created program learning outcomes at the root level and then assigned the outcomes to an assignment rubric. We have the PLO set to not be included in the score. We are using the PLO (outcomes) for us to score the program and not for students to see. How do we have the PLOs assigned to an assignment but not have the students see it on the rubric?
here the topic solution
To assign Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) to an assignment rubric without students seeing them, you can follow these steps. This process assumes you are using a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, or another similar platform.
Create Rubric:
Add Criteria:
Attach PLOs:
Hide PLOs from Students:
Hide Rubric Details:
If the LMS you are using does not have a built-in feature to hide specific rubric criteria from students, consider these workarounds:
Separate Rubrics: Create two rubrics—one for students that includes only the grading criteria, and a second internal rubric that includes the PLOs for instructor use only.
Commenting System: Use the comments section of the grading tool to internally note PLOs when grading each assignment. This method ensures students do not see the PLOs but still allows you to track them.
Manual Tracking: Maintain a separate document or spreadsheet where you track how each assignment meets the PLOs. This method is more manual but ensures students do not see the PLOs.
The exact steps and options can vary depending on the specific LMS you are using. If your LMS has limited functionality in this regard, consider using a combination of the methods above to ensure that PLOs are assessed internally without being visible to students. Always consult your LMS's help resources or support team for detailed instructions tailored to your system.
Thanks, Sabalash, for your detailed response. Unfortunately, as Kerry noted, your step 4 about hiding SLOs from students is not correct; students still see the PLO on the rubric even if the "Use this criteria for scoring" box has been unchecked. It's very frustrating that Canvas won't allow us to hide PLO rubric scores.

Our institution is setting up 9 institutional outcomes in Canvas. Several of our outcomes have multiple skill sets within the rubric. For example: Critical Reading – Skill Set A Critical Reading – Skill Set B Critical Reading – Skill Set C Our understanding is that Canvas Outcomes data reports can provide the overall/total…
I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric. When you create a new criterion for a rubric, you enter a decription for a rating, but for an account level outcome.
We use a pre- post- model to measure learning which requires student-question matching from two time periods. This requires exporting quiz data to CSV to do the analysis properly. (I can get into more detail if needed.) The New Quizzes Student Analysis CSV export has repeated blocks of ItemID then columns related to that…
Hello! A caution to my fellow Admins and support folks that Instructure updated their live-chat link (the one in the "(?) Help" menu, if you license their Support Chat service) fairly recently, but the old broken one is still online and appears as if it still functions. If someone hits the old link, after entering their…
