Microsoft LTI Education Login

The new Microsoft Education LTI is pretty snazzy. It has a login issue for us though. The tool constantly asks students to login. Sometimes, when they launch from Canvas, they get a 365 login screen.

Annoying? Yes, but it still works.

Sometimes, students (and faculty) get a screen saying the assignment is not available. Then a flood of inbox messages and screenshots rain upon me.

The solution is not obvious: Cick the circle icon in the right-hand corner, click the link to login, log in in a new tab, and refresh the tab saying the assignment is not available.

My question: Is this "assignment is not available screen" a problem in our LTI settings, an issue caused by our 365 settings, a bug, a known issue, or something else?

Are you talking about this screen? I have had this ongoing issue where all students can access a Micrsoft Education Word document assignment the first time and complete the assignment, but when they go back to it to add more, it takes them to this screen. Now they can click on OneDrive to access the assignment, but now there is nowhere and no way for them to submit the assignment in Canvas anymore. Is this the same error you are seeing?

I opened a ticket with my school's IT weeks ago, and they can't figure it out. They even had a 2 hour call with Microsoft last Friday and still can't figure out why this is happening for some students but not all.

We often see a different screen from the one you have shown. The solution is to click on the circle icon in the upper right-hand corner and then go through a login process through a couple of different tabs and then come back to this tab and refresh. Still, the number of emails I get from students telling me I haven't made the assignment available is making me tired.

Our local IT found some guidance from Microsoft to enable third-party cookies in the browser, but we have been able to verify that the problem still exists even in the browser that allows third-party cookies.

Further, I'm beginning to suspect that the problem may be partially with Canvas. I recall reading in recent release notes that Canvas changed how it handles LTI 1.3 tools, and I am now seeing problems with other external tools prompting users to sign in. With most of those tools, if you close them and relaunch them from Canvas, it will eventually sign you in. I've seen this problem with Simple Syllabus and Perusall.

I have Canvas set to drop the lowest quiz score, however, my students can only barely tell that the grade text is slightly grey when dropped. Can it have a tag like the "missing" and "exempt" ones in the student gradebook?
