Hi,
I advised faculty member against using a new quiz with multiple attempts together with a late submission policy because of these two notes (https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-apply-a-Late-Submission-policy-in-the-Gradebook/ta-p/965)
- When taking a multiple-attempt quiz, a student who makes a new attempt after the due date has passed will receive deductions on all attempts, including attempts made before the due date.
- The Late Submission Policy is not supported when using multiple attempts in New Quizzes.
However, an instructor recently told me that in his course the late policy had worked as he wanted it to in that attempts after the due date were receiving a zero for the grade and not overriding the previous highest score. My understanding was that the new attempt after the due date would make the deduction apply to prior attempts (which is why I suggested that they do not use the quizzes for practice after the due date) but this did not happen. The instructor wants to know if this is a change from how it worked previously and if he can recommend the use of quizzes with multiple attempts to practice past the deadline moving forward. However, it does seem that the late submission was not affected at all by the late submission policy as the student received a 4/4 after the deadline. Therefore no score seems to have been impacted by the late policy. Is this accurate or has there been a change in late submission policy and new quizzes?
