Student groups and assignment settings are correct the Canvas. However, when students submit their assignment, the speedgrader does not have them organized in student groups. It treats student submissions as individual submissions, not as group.
Hi alenkahr,
It sounds like the group-submission option isn’t fully enabled on that assignment. In Canvas, even if you’ve created student groups, SpeedGrader will only treat a submission as a group submission if the assignment itself is explicitly set up that way. Here are the key things to double-check:
Assignment Settings
Edit the assignment.
Under Group Assignment, make sure “This is a Group Assignment” is checked.
Choose the correct Group Set (the same set where you placed the students).
Decide whether to give everyone the same grade by keeping “Assign Grades to Each Student Individually” unchecked (if you want a single grade for the group).
Submission Workflow
Remind students that only one person per group needs to submit the work. If each student uploads separately, SpeedGrader will show them as individual submissions.
Group Membership
Confirm that each student is actually assigned to a group within that group set before anyone submits. Late changes after a submission can cause Canvas to treat it as individual.
Resubmission (if needed)
If the setting wasn’t correct initially, you may need to update the assignment and ask for a resubmission so Canvas can register it as a group submission.
Once the assignment is correctly flagged as a group assignment and students submit as a group, SpeedGrader should display each submission under the group name rather than individual names.
I hope this helps.
Hi @alenkahr
Did @JoseOrcasitas response to you help? Do you have any questions or are you still experiencing problems?
If you are experiencing problems, can you please provide us with pictures/screenshots of your settings and what you are seeing?

My school district has changed our required Learning Outcomes for all of our courses for this school year. How can I archive the 400+ Learning Outcomes we used last school year so they're still linked to our 25-26 courses but teachers can't use them in 26-27 courses going forward?
I am setting up my courses for this year and I realized that when I opend the mastery-based gradebook, there is no color coding. When I open last years's course that had color-coding last time I opened it in the spring, it no longer has colors. The colors appear in the individual student view, but not in the all class view.
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
