Hi! I've submitted a jpg photo to be used for my canvas account, but it renders as an empty html image tag. When I try to go to the original file source hosted by canvas everything looks okay, so I'm wondering why it won't display on any other page.
Hi @Matthew_Medford ...
Personally, I don't really associate *.pdf files with images. Yes, you can insert images into *.pdf files (similar to how you could insert images into MS Word documents), but I don't usually try and upload images via *.pdf documents. Instead, I would recommend saving your image as a *.jpg, *.png, or *.gif format. Then, re-try uploading your image to your profile picture in Canvas. I think you'll have better success with one of those formats instead. And, in fact, if you take a look at this Guide, How do I add a profile picture in my user account?, you'll see in the light blue box at the top of the page the suggested file formats to use for uploading your image.
I hope this will be of some help to you. Sing out if you have any other questions about this.
Take care...be well.
@Matthew_Medford How was this issue resolved for you? We're experiencing the same issue currently. It appears to be across our institution.
@AmandaDomogalik We seem to be experiencing similar issues! We see what could be confused with "alt tags" or the dreaded broken small image icon. If I try safari on my phone I have no issues, Firefox v 144.02 and Chrome v 141 have the issue on my windows 11 PC. A Coworker is using a windows 11 PC and Firefox v144 gives her no issues.I talked with support and they said it could be a cache/browser/install issue. I am going to follow up after seeing your message here
We have begun noticing issues with Assignments that utilise LTI tools. Some tools treat a submission deadline as including the entire minute specified, rather than up to that minute. eg. The LTI tool accepts a configured 11:59 as up to 11:59:59. Whereas Canvas treats the deadline as 11:59:00. Why does this matter? Well,…
Is having students read the textbook considered an assignment or an activity if there is no grade but a required date?
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
