Add "check mark" or "X" to correct/incorrect math/calculation answers

Before I started using Canvas, students would submit assignments on paper to me. 

These assignments would require students to write calculations/equations and solve problems.  I would then place a simple 'check mark' or 'x' by each question.  For the answers that were wrong, i'd then provide the correct formula/calculation.  I can 'annotate' and provide feedback, but I am unable to simply place a check-mark or X by each question.

It seems that Canvas does not allow me to put a simple 'check mark' or 'X' by the math problem.  How do I insert either one of these symbols?

Hi JD_GEOM,

I completely understand how frustrating it can be to switch from paper to Canvas and feel like you can’t just add a simple check mark or X on a student’s work.   Here are some options to help

1. Use SpeedGrader Comments

   • Open the assignment in SpeedGrader.

   • Click the Comment box and insert symbols:

     • Check mark (✓): Mac: Option + V | Windows: Alt + 2713

     • X mark (✘ or ×): Mac: Option + Shift + X | Windows: Alt + 0215

2. Annotate PDFs

   • Open the submission in SpeedGrader, click Annotate, and use the Pen tool to add ✓ or ✘ directly on the student’s work.

3. Use a Rubric

   • Add ✓ for correct answers and ✘ for incorrect ones in the rubric—this makes grading faster and more consistent.
