How do I keyword search my Canvas messages?
This seems like a very basic functionality that is just... absent? Am I missing something?
Indeed, Canvas Inbox doesn't have a keyword search feature, even though it has been requested years ago, seemingly multiple times. See, for example, [Inbox] Add search feature for Inbox/Conversations - Instructure Community Ideas.
Alternatively, it's possible to create a simple (and probably slow) search feature using the API, by looping through the conversation IDs returned in /api/v1/conversations and then getting the body of each message in /api/v1/conversations/:id, but I agree that could have been available in the UI.
See Conversations - Canvas LMS REST API Documentation for more details.
To the developers: yes please add a key word search function to Canvas!! We are using it for educational materialls and now we have to search every 'tile' and every list! Thank you!!
YES! The year is 2025 and I still cannot search my Canvas inbox by keyword... which is so useful when wanting to re-use something. The inbox does not let me CC my personal email address, and thus I have to rely on user name (or doom scrolling) when looking for an old email. Again, it's 2025, Canvas!
Hello, everyone, I am new here. I am a little worried since I started the FAML100 course at BYU-Idaho through BYU-Pathway, and there is a quiz titled "W02 Quiz Reading Research: Using Abstracts" (It appears in the Grade section, not in Modules) where I have 10 possibilities to do the quiz. I did 8 times, and each attempt,…
I am currently experiencing an issue where a student’s assignment grade appears in Moderate, but it is not populating in the Canvas gradebook. I have verified the submission is there, but the grade is still missing from the gradebook view. Is there a known fix or additional step needed to get the grade to display properly?
Due dates and available from / until dates are very confusion. I would like to provide a specific time period during which students can see and get access to an assignment. I would also like to limit the time available to complete the assignment regardless when the student starts. E.g., An assignment becomes available at 7…
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
