Need help urgently! Our orientation program needs to track student progress across different modules in Canvas. Has anyone used Canvas to monitor completion and engagement in a detailed way?Would love some tips 🙂
I'm reading this as unit of learning modules rather than Canvas modules.
You can set high level outcomes at account or sub-account level and deploy these via Rubrics into individual Canvas courses.Â
The outcomes will then report at both module and (sub) account levels.
Hey! Yeah I faced the same issue man when I was trying to track student progress in our orientation, but I figured out a few tricks that really helped.Â
So, there’s this thing called Module Requirements that’s a lifesaver. You can set it up so students actually have to go through each part of the module—like watch a vid or click “done” on stuff—before they can move on.Â
And then, there’s this View Progress option in the module settings. Go in there, hit “View Progress,” and you get this easy view of who’s done what. It’s super handy for spotting anyone who’s falling behind.
If you’re into tracking a bit more, try New Analytics (if you’ve got it in your Canvas). It lets you see who’s clicking on what.. gives a decent sense of who’s actually engaging.
Last tip would be umm—Canvas has this Inbox feature where you can shoot out quick reminders. If you notice someone hasn’t done a section, just drop them a message like, “Hey, noticed you’re missing this part—need any help?”
Hope this helps, man! Let me know if you need more tips; I’ve spent wayyyyy too much time messing around with Canvas!!!
Ah, I see what you’re saying about high-level outcomes —that’s actually super helpful. Appreciate the tip man, I’ll give it a go!
Hello! I'm new to Canvas as of Spring Semester 2026 and I am curious if there is a key detailing the meaning of various icons that present next to assignments. The 3 I see most often are (a) a green circle with a stick figure in it: (b) what looks like a rocket heading north east: and (c ) a piece of paper with a pencil on…
With the new SpeedGrader UI, we are seeing student names appear in the page title even when the “Hide student names” setting is enabled. When using Classic Quizzes, there is no option within the quiz settings to enable anonymous grading, so we rely on instructors using the hide student names setting in SpeedGrader to…
Speedgrader chaning file name when being downloaded. Speedgrader: When downloading a submitted assignment, the file name is being changed to an unrecognizable name — (Student's actual name was part of the file name — changed for privacy.) Ideas???
We are all familiar with the standard Course Calendar, where assignment due dates are automatically added. However, at my institution, we structure our assignments as Challenges that develop over a period of time, rather than just a single deadline. Currently, the calendar only highlights the "end point." It would be a…
The current placement of the "Submit" button creates a "slip" in user behavior where habit-clicking "Next" leads to an accidental final submission. I think Canvas could easily fix this by: Moving the Submit button away from the navigation buttons (maybe above the question instead of below it) and/or Adding a "Confirm…
