All of my sections have the same name from SIS ID, can you please add a nickname feature so I can tell the difference between my sections?
There is a way for you to edit section names, even if the sections are automatically generated through a connection with your school's SIS. We use PowerSchool, so our enrollments and sections are generated from that connection. The ways ours is set up, the section names are created to include a # for which period the students are enrolled (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.).
To manually change these, go to your course's Settings page. On that page is a tab for Sections. This will list all of your sections. Each section name is linked, so click on one of them to open a page that gives the name, the SIS ID, and the enrollment. At the top of the menu on the right is an option that says "Edit Section" where you can change the name. As along as the SIS ID does not change, it should still connect to your SIS for syncing purposes. There is a way for your SIS integration to be set up to define section names. I believe this can also be set up so that it defaults to the course title from your SIS, among some other details. This would be how all of my sections give the course title from our SIS followed by a number for the period. I am not familiar with this process, so maybe someone more familiar with managing this can provide some additional details that you could take back to whomever handles Canvas for your district.
My school district has changed our required Learning Outcomes for all of our courses for this school year. How can I archive the 400+ Learning Outcomes we used last school year so they're still linked to our 25-26 courses but teachers can't use them in 26-27 courses going forward?
I am setting up my courses for this year and I realized that when I opend the mastery-based gradebook, there is no color coding. When I open last years's course that had color-coding last time I opened it in the spring, it no longer has colors. The colors appear in the individual student view, but not in the all class view.
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
