Hi there. There are a couple ways you can send your instructor a message from within Canvas. Keep in mind that sending a message in Canvas is not the same as regular e-mail. You can only message your classmates and instructors within Canvas...and also receive messages from them. You cannot send messages to your friends and family from within Canvas because they are not enrolled in the same classes that you are. You can, however, set up your notification settings (via your "Account" >> "Notifications" screen) so that you can get notified of conversations/messages...so you might want to look at that at some point.
