New student for Fall with only 1 name

Question

Hi all,

We have a student entering for the Fall term who has only 1 legal name. Have you experienced this at your schools? We enroll students through SIS import using Banner as our SIS. Banner requires something in the Firstname field. They recommend using a "." Has anyone experienced this?

We are thinking there might be problems with:

* Banner import
* LTIs

If anyone has experience we'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on potential pitfalls or other things we should test.

Hi @tammie_t_patten,

We are a Banner school as well, and anytime we are in this situation, a "." is entered into Banner for the missing name (first or last).  This then feeds to Canvas and other systems.  Other than somewhat unusual display, I haven't ever head of this causing an issue.
