We are retiring a past LMS and would like to store the old classes on Canvas. Is there an easy way to load these, not one by one, into Canvas, with student data? Thanks for your thoughts.
Hi @CindyCFFP
Depending on what the LMS is, it may be possible (with some scripting or API calls) to import at least some of the course content from the other LMS into Canvas course shells. There is more information on migration strategies at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/LMS-Migration-Strategies/gh-p/migration
However, there is really no way to import student data (coursework, assessments, grades, etc.) from another LMS (or even from another Canvas system) into Canvas courses.
Hello Cindy,
K16 Solutions is a close partner of Instructure and offers an archiving solution for those institutions that have migrated to Canvas.
Rather than paying for an expensive read-only version of your legacy LMS instance or using cold storage. Scaffold Archiving allows institutions to archive their historical course content and student data on a platform that fully integrates with Canvas.
Course content and student data can easily move from the archives to Canvas and vice versa. I'm happy to get you in touch with some of our customers that are using this solution, or get you in touch with my colleague who can demo this solution for you.
You can read several customer stories here of those customers that have migrated and then archived using our services.
Thanks,Jason Simmons, SVP, K16 Solutions
With the new SpeedGrader UI, we are seeing student names appear in the page title even when the “Hide student names” setting is enabled. When using Classic Quizzes, there is no option within the quiz settings to enable anonymous grading, so we rely on instructors using the hide student names setting in SpeedGrader to…
Speedgrader chaning file name when being downloaded. Speedgrader: When downloading a submitted assignment, the file name is being changed to an unrecognizable name — (Student's actual name was part of the file name — changed for privacy.) Ideas???
We are all familiar with the standard Course Calendar, where assignment due dates are automatically added. However, at my institution, we structure our assignments as Challenges that develop over a period of time, rather than just a single deadline. Currently, the calendar only highlights the "end point." It would be a…
The current placement of the "Submit" button creates a "slip" in user behavior where habit-clicking "Next" leads to an accidental final submission. I think Canvas could easily fix this by: Moving the Submit button away from the navigation buttons (maybe above the question instead of below it) and/or Adding a "Confirm…
