Missing Label Applied Incorrectly

Students who have an assignment submitted, but not yet graded by the instructor, are labeled as 'Missing.' This is creating confusion for students who think they have a missing assignment, but, in fact, do not.  The missing label is even syncing over to Skyward. This is creating a problem for teachers AND students.

The way it should work is that a Missing label changes to Late after the submissions due date/time. If this is not happening, I would consider putting in a ticket through the Help menu for Canvas Support to get some assistance solving why this is happening.

On my end, it does correctly update. However, when nightly sync to SIS is turned on, then if the sync occurs before the missing label is removed, then it will mark the assignment as missing in my SIS. Once that label is applied, my SIS will NOT remove that missing label until I grade the assignment. This causes items to look like they are missing in the SIS, but are marked as submitted in Canvas. 

There have been various feature requests related to the missing label over the years.
