My classes from last year were (I guess automatically) archived. How do I get & copy my assignments from an archived class to my active class. It looks like all my hard work was deleted.

When a course is archived, it is read-only, and you cannot change it. Your institution may have policies in regard to archive courses, but see if you can ask a Canvas admin at your institution to download an export package of your course and share it with you and/or import it into your active course.
