I want to use a free ready made template for my course. I have watched the videos, but I can't seem to find them in my canvas instance. Any help appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what templates you're referring to. You might find some available in Canvas Commons, if that feature is available to you. If not, perhaps your school has some templates set up you you to use. We don't have that kind of information as Canvas Community users, but someone on your local Canvas team (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas) might be able to assist you.
