Global Discussions settings?

I'd like to set up students groups for my Discussion Board that will remain the same throughout the semester, and that will apply to ALL discussions. Is there a setting to do this in Canvas? I've only seen the Group options in individual discussions.

The short answer is that there is no global setting. You can use the same groups throughout the course, but you will have to designate each individual discussion as a "group" discussion.
